On 26th June 2005 the
museum at Zorge celebrated it’s 25 year anniversary. It is located in the center of town next to the
Kurpark in the “Zacharias Koch” house (a former spa). The museum has displays over
two floors dedicated to objects of daily life over several centuries. It is maintained by the "Association
Zorge Museum
e.V.” and is run by members on a voluntary basis with an elected board. The building, where the museum is located, was built in
1681 by the chief forest ranger Zachary Koch and was the continual residence of
the forest rangers until 1938. From 1958 to1975 the local communal authority
was based there and afterwards it was used by the spa management. Following the founding of the Association in
1978 and the first opening of the museum in a private home, the Association received
in 1988 the opportunity to establish itself at the current location. Due to the strong collective
passion of the directors and its members the museum was expanded gradually, and
today offers visitors over 4000 small and large exhibits to view.
